Women's Day

This Women’s Day, we honour the incredible women who build and shape our lives, our communities, and our nation through their care, strength, nurturing, and wisdom. Women are so often the architects of resilience, they build families, inspire growth, and often lead with unwavering and inspiring courage. We are privileged to hear such stories in our work… the mom who wakes up early to make the pathway outside her home clean and safe for children going to school. The neighbour who took it on herself to fix her neighbours water fault. The Gogo who gently implored her neighbour to stop her destructive gossip and choose rather to build others up. The three young girls who told our team they were worried about a division in our high school group, and the one young lady who offered to lead a session to resolve it. The brave young woman who stood, eyes closed, heart on her sleeve and told the group how terrible they make her feel at times: her vulnerability opening the way to awareness, deep reflection and increased unity.

We embrace the theme of Women’s month: “Building Resilient Economies for All,” and we recognise that women’s participation and leadership are vital to overcoming poverty, inequality, and unemployment. True progress comes when women are not only nurturers but also leaders in our economy and society.

We remember, with gratitude, the brave women who marched to the Union Buildings in 1956, standing up against oppression and injustice. Their legacy fuels our ongoing journey toward equality and empowerment.

Today and every day, we celebrate women who serve as a driving force behind transformation, and who build hope for a future where economies and communities thrive.

We believe that every woman’s voice and strength matter, and we celebrate the many women who work and partner with ReStory to Build Lives, Communities, and our Nation.
